My Favorite Inspiration

Hello everyone!

Like I had written before….my inspiration for poetry is life itself…emotions, issues, quotes, events etc. I also love Urdu poetry. Urdu is considered as a very sweet language and I have read so many Urdu poetries which have inspired me. If you delve into Urdu poetry, the philosophy and secrets of life are hidden in nearly all the verses which are revealed at the end of the poem. It is a different style….a unique genre altogether! Being my mother tongue, I tried very hard to write poems in this language but I feel I was a big failure as I couldn’t capture it’s essence. For those of you who understand Hindi or Urdu…..i would highly recommend reading Urdu poetry to nourish your senses and get inspired.

Then there has been this single poem which I have loved throughout my childhood which (you can say) was my First Love. This poem was part of our English syllabus and for some reason I loved reading it again and again. Till today I remember the first four verses by heart. I guess somewhere I could connect to the description of the lady and I sometimes wished someone had written such a beautiful poem for me. Don’t we all dream of being described in a poetic way? I would like to share this beautiful poetry by Lord Byron :

SHE WALKS IN BEAUTY

SHE walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that ‘s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellow’d to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impair’d the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.

And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!
